I was delighted when Marc Sorenson sent me
his manuscript, Solar Power, for colleague review and
comment.
This book fills an important need for a
comprehensive source of information on the health benefits
of solar UVB and vitamin D, as well as the risk factors for
skin cancer and melanoma, while simultaneously providing
extensive references for those who want to read the original
papers.
He has also done his homework, synthesizing the
important literature for each topic covered. This book will
be an important step in moving the UVB/vitamin D agenda
forward.
If I had written a book on UVB and vitamin D, this
would have been it.
From the foreword by William B. Grant, Ph.D.,
SUNARC
Fiat lux.
I read this book as an affirmation of an ancient truth, that
all terrestrial life is dependent on the sun.
Only recently
have we seen the increasing value and vitality of the
multiple roles of Vitamin D as a mediator of solar energy.
This book is a compelling call to arms.

I have known Dr. Marc Sorenson for over two
decades and have witnessed the success of his books,
lectures and health spa in improving my life and health and
the lives and health of many thousands of persons over the
years.
Marc is a scrupulously honest educator and tirelessly
researches the medical literature for truth and wisdom.
He
is able to analyze the data and come up with simple, yet
profound ideas that can be used by all persons who quest for
health and vitality.
All the while, he leaves nothing to
guesswork; each statement is meticulously and fully
documented.
Humans have neglected the environment that
nurtured them for all of mankind's history, moving out of
the sunlight and substituting fractured and depleted foods
for healthful whole foods, thereby becoming the weakest and
fattest Homo Sapiens to ever inhabit the Earth.
People
would do themselves a valuable service to read and apply the
wisdom of "Solar Power" and Dr. Sorenson's other books in
their lives.

“Marc Sorenson has written the first
comprehensive book about vitamin D for the lay public. This
was no easy task and he performed it well.
The vitamin D
steroid hormone system is involved in most organ systems,
and vitamin D deficiency has been associated with
depression, obesity, cancer, heart disease, stroke, multiple
sclerosis, hypertension, diabetes, chronic pain, poor
physical performance, and a host of autoimmune diseases.
Adequate amounts of vitamin D, and this may mean 5,000 units
a day for many people, is the closest thing to a panacea any
of us will see in our lifetime.
Marc deserves
congratulations for tackling a difficult subject and making
it understandable for the lay reader. I highly recommend
this book.”

Vitamin D Council, Inc.
Dr.
Sorenson does not hesitate to swim against a swift current.
His meticulous research corroborates his extensive and
intensive observations in the health-enhancing professions.
Any one chapter in Solar Power, when prefaced by the
dedication and foreword, would be a magnificent solo
treatise.
A quick inspection of chapter 10, for example,
displays how contemporary are (most of) his scientific
references.
This book cuts a broad swath counter to many
modern institutions and lifestyles.
The reader who resists
common sense and tenaciously adheres to customary habits
does so at his own misguided peril.

So what is
so new about Solar Power?
From the 1920's when I began
general practice in Chicago we did everything to heal our
patients.
This included prescribing ozone lamps in the
winter to get our patients the sunlight they needed to boost
their vitality and immunity."

B. Clark, MD (At 107, the oldest man in Utah)
Dr. Marc Sorenson has done his due diligence
in carefully researching the etiology for skin cancers and
many other common diseases which afflict mankind.
This book
is a must read for all health care professionals and the
general public alike, and should effectively dispel solar
paranoia and get people back into the sun for common sense
sunbathing, which I believe will dramatically decrease the
potential for pain, suffering and disease.
Dr. Sorenson
provides the scientific research and documentation
supporting his recommendations, and I am elated as a health
care provider to now suggest simple and safe sunbathing to
help so many health problems.

"The pursuit of perfect health and the
slowing of the aging processes occupy the forefront in the
minds of most maturing baby-boomers and millions of others
whose health has been compromised.
We already know the
importance of proper nutrition and a daily vigorous exercise
regimen in achieving optimal health, but here in this book
you will find a third very crucial element-frequently the "missing link"
in people's search for the most healthful lifestyle-the
benefits of adequate (but not excessive) exposure to
sunlight!
If you want to lower risk of
osteoporosis, cancer, heart disease and other major
degenerative ailments, this book is a must read!`
Ruth Heidrich, Ph.D., Ironman Triathlete,
Author of Senior Fitness and A Race for
Life
Are you a sun-phobe? Does the mere thought of
going outside cause you to feverishly protect yourself with
an armor of sunscreen?
Do you feel guilty and wonder why
the intense touch of your supposed enemy actually makes you
feel good?
Solar Power, by Dr. Marc Sorenson,
comprehensively explains why being sun-phobic is the real
danger.
Complete with mortality maps and graphs, the book
convincingly documents how low sunlight exposure
significantly increases the risk of breast cancer, prostate
cancer, colon cancer, multiple sclerosis, osteoporosis, high
blood pressure, and many other life-threatening diseases.
Knowledge is power, and Solar Power is
no exception. Read it, and you will bask in the light,
without fear or guilt.
